Wow! What a long, hot, fun summer it has been collecting hair samples for our population estimate!
We all wanted to take a minute to say a number of thank yous to everyone who has been involved in this project in one way or another. Thank you to our amazing field crew (Cesar, Jac, Eleanor, Sam, Danny and Ramona)! These students did an incredible job working in hot, sometimes wet conditions, collecting hair every week! Thank you to the folks at MA Department of Fish and Wildlife for all their help setting up corrals and taking them down now that we are done for the year. A special thank you to all of our landowners for letting us set up corrals on your land. We could not have done this project without you!
Over the course of the summer, we collected over 1800 samples from 122 corrals! We are so excited to move on to the next phase of the process, extracting DNA and genotyping samples when students get back to campus in September.
Thank you for your interest in the project. We’ll keep you posted as we continue to progress!
